Existence of God Research Paper

Introduction

The existence of God has been a debatable topic among the philosophers, theologians and even to the common man.  Renowned traditional philosophers like Aristotle and Plato gave their thoughts about whether they think God existed or not. Currently, people are still debating whether God exists, resulting in the division of people into two main groups; believers and non-believers. Experts have deduced many arguments to support the existence of God. Apart from biblical arguments, there are logical arguments that support the existence of God. Even though the man may intellectually dispute God’s existence, there is an innate feeling in all of us that believes there is a supernatural being (Paulsen 65). The lack of empirical evidence against the existence of God doesn’t mean that he doesn’t exist. Douglas, 1999, sums it up by saying that ‘Absence of evidence is not evidence’ to mean that even though man should not just argue that God does not exist due to lack of concrete evidence of his existence. The research paper provides an argument that God exists.

Explaining the Existence of God

First, the existence of God can be explained by ontological evidence. This argument uses the human reasoning to try to establish the existence of God as opposed to abstract reasoning. For a long time, humans have been worshiping God as a greatest being that they can bank their hopes on in case of despair. In this regard, the human beings have the idea of God as an infinite, perfect, and all powerful.

On the other hand, teleological evidence can also be used to provide insights on the existence and abilities of God among the believers. Under this argument, the universe is so wonderfully created that it can only be done by some powers who are above the human beings. For example the dry land separation from the heavens could not have been designed without a proper designer and that could have been God (Mellert 32). In addition, the world gives abundant evidence of God’s existence. The existence of man, the heavens, lakes, trees, the fruitful seasons, sky and clouds all continually declare the existence of God and that a powerful and wise creator has made and sustained them. The design depicted in the creation of the universe must have taken handicraft and not just a chance happening. The way things exist and co-exists display a beautiful order and regularity that might have been crafted and arranged by a superior being other than the humans.

Cosmological evidence can also be used to explain the existence of God by asserting that every effect results from a certain cause. Since the human beings cannot explain the very existence of several things that takes place in the word, it can only be deduced that God made them happen that way. The universe is eternal and that the universe was created by an eternal being that believes in an existence of an omnipotent God. Under the normal human power, it is impossible to make the earth alone, leave along the universe. The Bible affirms that God is independent and self existing to everlasting. Douglas says that the atheists who dispute about God’s existence are looking for empirical proof like footprints or photographs, not forgetting that God is not a man and thus he doesn’t have DNA and no photographs (Domingo 147). The no-God hypothesis states that everything needs a causal effect and need a something to cause them to exist, all things that need to be caused of being are dependent on. Peter further states that everything that there must be the first giver of the gift to human beings and this Gift must be passed down from the original receiver. This point out that God is an eternal being who passes over the gift of being in the world.

The existence of God can also be explained in terms of logical evidence. The logical and moral argument states that if God didn’t exist, then there would be no moral objective moral standards for the human beings to exist as they are existing today. It further states that everyone deep down has a feeling that there is a moral objective standard. Human beings have consciousness and believe in their conscious to do right or wrong. Therefore, there must be an infinite being telling us what is wrong or good. The conscious mind must have been put in place to help guide us by a supernatural being who wanted us to differentiate right from good.

The Earth and the Universe

The manner in which the earth and the universe are positioned leaves more questions than answers. Normally, it is always believed that everything that exists originated from somewhere. In this regard, somebody was responsible for the formation and the creation of all the stars, planets, the sun, the moon, together with all other heavenly bodies that exists. Also, it is amazing to see the earth navigating around the sun in 24hrs for millions of years without the guidance of God. Even the scientists find it complicated to understand the manner in which the universe was made and such credit can only be given to God.

There are many reasons that humans believe and trust the existence of God. One of the main reasons is the earth which is seen to be in a very perfect size. The forces of gravity that acts upon the earth cannot be fully explained by the sources and their magnitude. In addition, it is difficult to explain the origin of the sources of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, or even carbon that fills our atmosphere. Related to this, it is evident that gases in the earth in their right components to support the plant and the animal life. This begs the question: who mixed these gas components to their rightful state to support life? In relation to this, the sun rays from the sun are controlled in that we are not very far to feel extreme coldness nor are we very close to burn from it. Therefore, it seems that somebody must have been responsible for the strategic location of the earth. The most likely scenario is that they were created by God since we cannot fully explain their origin. Such kind of rotating evident on earth ensures that the earth remains warm and cooled on a daily basis. Again, then gravitational pull is an evidence where the moon is in a perfect size and at a reasonable distance from the earth. On the same note, the gravitational pull from the moon also supports the stability of the earth by creating the important ocean tides that covers various continents in the world.

Water

The aspect of water is evidence that God is in existence. It is very strange that water is colorless, odorless and yet no human creature who can live in it. On the other side, plants, animals and human beings consist of mostly water and other characteristic which are mostly suited to life. Such reasons are enough to prove that water was created by God, implying that God is in existence. It it extremely wonderful to see how the water bodies cover various parts of the world at their temperatures (Domingo 155). Most of it is neither very hot nor very cold to suppress the life in it, but they help support the life on the planet. The water component of the world performs various functions such as cleaning the environment, housing various plants and animals and by providing the food for millions of plants and animals. Funnily, the unique surface tension that takes place in the water can possibly be made by God, since science does not provide satisfactory evidence. Generally, water is an important component of survival that is why God created the earth with most parts of it covered with water. There is a system which is designed to remove salt from water and supply it to the rest of the world. On the other side, evaporation takes place on the ocean water which removes salt from the water and ensures that it is also distributed to the mainland.

Human Brain

It is very strange that a person’s brain has the ability to be process a lot of information at the same time. The brain has the accessibility of taking and keeping all the information a factor which makes and gives assertion that God exists. It is the human brain which weighs the importance of all the data which is retrieved in a person’s body. Such ability allows for screening functionality which helps a person to focus effectively in his world. Due to the fact that the brain functions differently from other organs in the body, one has an affirmation that a supernatural being created a human being (God). The human intelligence is a good reason to believe that God is in control. The ability to reason, produce feelings and take action as well as relate to other people is a clear evidence that God Exists (Wiegand & Howard 35). Compared to other organs in the body, the brain functions much differently and has a higher capability to store data. It is beyond human reasoning and thinking how such a factor works proving that God is real. It is God who gave humans a brain, which the scientists have tried to duplicate to no avail.

The Eye

A human eye is very amazing due to its ability to distinguish among million colours. Then eye can distinguish different colours at a time. Such a factor proves that there is a supernatural being that created our eye as its functions are amazing. Also, the eye has an automatic focus which enables it to handle an astounding 1.5 million messages simultaneously without any problems. Despite the evolution theories trying to explain the changes that take place, it does not provide compelling evidence for the survival of mankind (Paulsen 62). This is to mean that there is another supernatural being which holds all the explanation that we need to know. Since the source of our eye and brain is strange, they are linked with God as the creator. Organism began from non-living matter and that matter was Gods doing. That matter is what scientists do not explain its formation clearly proving that God is the origin. However, the scientists are trying to convince the people that the earth resulted from the big bang without providing satisfactory evidence how it began and what were the real causes. The shortcomings of the big bang justify that what we may not fully explain actually came from God. The evolution of man is linked to a supernatural being which is God. Due to such a reason, God existence is proven to all.

Complexity of Life

The complex nature by which life exists helps to demonstrate that somebody must have made it that way. Specifically, the manner in which different organs of the body are able to coordinate without any conflict for several years is itself amazing. It tends to point out that somebody somewhere might have designed the beautiful thing to exist in the manner it exist today. Apart from the human beings, the other living things such as the plants and animals also have wonderful designs and capabilities that is quite amazing. Even those who don’t believe God looks at the environment and notice how the living things look amazing.

The Bible

The bible provides numerous literatures that described and explains the nature of God. In the scriptures, there is a lot of evidence that God exists (Davis 53). The bible explains much of God’s existence, for example the book of Genesis starts by explaining to us what God has done. On the other hand, the consistent nature of the bible is a good proof that God exists. For more than 1600 years, the message contained in the bible has been very consistent in its explanations of the interaction of God and the human beings. Despite being written by more than 40 different authors and translated into thousands of languages, the information contained in the Bible is still the same and it exemplifies the existence of God (Larrimore 599). On the other hand, there have been numerous attempts by some people in authority to eradicate the bible only to fail serious. Instead, the penetration of the bible is ever increasing to the extent that it now reaches millions of people in the remotest areas of the world. It seems that there is some ultimate power that tends to protect the bible from being wiped out of the world. Of all the books of the world, the bible is still leading as the most bought books and the highest number of translations. On the similar note, scientific work through archeology has demonstrated that the dates quoted in the bible have a high degree of accuracy. Some of the predictions in the bible a have also come true, a demonstration that God is fulfilling his promises.

Testimonies and Miracles

Several people have provided the miraculous nature by which events have unfolded in their lives. To be precise, many Christians have given an account of how their faith in God has made them better or healed from various diseases. Some of these testimonies are so convincing since they are made by the eye witnesses that helps to remove the notion of self interest. People who go to church sometimes experience miracles happening in their lives upon being prayed for by the pastor or a prophet. All these point out that there is an almighty personality who is in charge of the happenings in the world and rewards those who believe in him. For example, Israel is a country that is linked to the existence of God due to the numerous times it is mentioned in the bible. The current existence of the country, Israel is still a miracle by itself considering the threats and wars they have been facing over the years. When the Hamas fired several rockets into Israel, more casualties were expected due to their destructive nature (Davis 52). However, very few casualties were reported to show that some supernatural powers might be protecting them from danger.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both in the bible and  nature have logical explanations that supports the existence of God These arguments explain evidence that shows God exists. However, the belief, whether God exists or not is usually fueled by belief or evidence. The very existence of God has been a matter of discussion for many centuries and even today it is still being discussed.  Even scientists have begun gathering evidences to unearth whether God exists or not. First, the existence of God can be explained by ontological evidence. This argument uses the human reasoning to try to establish the existence of God as opposed to abstract reasoning. On the other hand, teleological evidence can also be used to provide insights on the existence and abilities of God among the believers. The aspect of water is evidence that God is in existence. It is very strange that water is colorless, odorless and yet no human creature who can live in it. The nature of water and the its contribution to the survival of plants and animals is beyond human explanations. The cooperation of different components of life, such as the human brain and the eye also leaves more questions that can only be answered in terms of God’s power. The complex nature by which life exists helps to demonstrate that somebody must have made it that way. The bible provides more information about God’s existence and most of the things predicted in the bible have come to pass. Finally, people have also provided convincing testimonies and miracles that can only be explained in terms of God.
