Human Ergonomic is the act of designing systems, products, or processes in a working environment to take proper account of the interaction between these activities and the people who engage in these activities or the people who use the products. I think that it is vital for each and every company to understand the interactions among their employees and the elements or the machines in that particular company. In a nutshell, I think that a company should always use equipment or devices that fit the human body and the cognitive abilities of its employees. Toyota Motor Corporation is not an exception to Human Ergonomic as I saw them implement it in various ways. They have put so much in place so that accidents are avoided and also ill-health is avoided while at work.
The way Toyota does ergonomic is a little different from the way it is done in other companies. At Toyota, they value the employees’ need, and that is why there is Bona fide Employee Qualification. They only hire the employees whom they feel have the ability to work with the available machines without causing severe accidents. They always remeasure applicants as they come in and this is called job match. There is a supervisor for each team who must always understand what the team members are doing. When it is seen that the process does not fit the employees well, they always try to modify the processes so as to fit the abilities of the employees.
Toyota is also very keen on the safety of their employees. For this reason, the executive together with the stakeholders running the Corporation always discusses matters on safety every Monday morning. Moreover, they always ask the employees how they are doing on a daily basis. The safety concern registration goal is to sort the safety issues that have been reported in less than 14 days. They have a safety team that looks at all safety issues and fixes them. Toyota is not perfect, and their main target is to ensure that there is a comfort, and this is why they can always bring an athletic trainer.
